Day 1: Arrive in Kashgar

Highlights: Kashgar Old Town.

After airport pickup and hotel check-in, Wander Kashgar Old Town’s maze of sun-baked alleys, peeking into skywell courtyards draped with grapevines.

Overnight: Kashgar

Day 2: Kashgar City Tour (15km)

Highlights: Sunday Livestock Market, Apak Hoja Tomb, Id Kah Mosque.

Begin at the ​Sunday Livestock Market (10 AM–4 PM), where herders trade sheep and yaks—practice bargaining for silver jewelry or embroidered doppa hats. Continue to the ​Apak Hoja Tomb, a 17th-century mausoleum adorned with Islamic tiles and linked to the Qing Dynasty’s “Fragrant Concubine” legend. After lunch, explore ​Kashgar Old Town’s artisan workshops crafting dutar lutes and copperware, then visit Id Kah Mosque, China’s largest mosque, during evening prayers.

Overnight: Kashgar

Day 3: Kashgar → Tashkorgan (300km, 6hrs via G314)

Highlights: Karakoram Highway, Opal Village, Oytagh Valley, Karakul Lake.

Depart early along the ​Karakoram Highway, stopping first at ​Opal Village to browse its bazaar for dried apricots and walnut-stuffed nan bread. Traverse the rust-hued cliffs of ​Oytagh Valley, watching for wild Bactrian camels. Pause at ​White Sand Lake, where wind creates “singing” dunes, then arrive at ​Karakul Lake to photograph the reflection of ​Muztagh Ata (7,546m). Stay until dusk to see the “Father of Ice Mountains” glow pink.

Overnight: Tashkorgan stone guesthouse

Day 4: Tashkorgan → Kashgar (300km, 6hrs return)

Highlights: Stone City, Golden Grassland.

At dawn, climb the crumbling walls of ​Stone City, a 2,100-year-old Silk Road fortress where Han soldiers lit beacon fires. Next, visit the ​Golden Grassland, a marshland ablaze with amber hues in autumn, and sip yak milk tea in a Kyrgyz yurt. Return to Kashgar via the Karakoram Highway, stopping for photos of the Pamir’s stark beauty.

Overnight: Kashgar

Day 5: Kashgar Departure

Enjoy a leisurely morning exploring ​Handicraft Street for silk scarves or jade souvenirs. Transfer to the airport with a farewell gift of rose tea and almonds.
